HISTORY OF PROTECTAPEEL

Protectapeel Corporation was founded in 1936 as a manufacturer of peelable coatings to the shoe industry. At the outbreak or World War 2 customers such as Boeing and McDonnell Douglas discovered that these coatings had a much broader use on acrylic aircraft canopies during fabrication and assembly.

In succeeding years Protectapeel developed many different coatings for a variety of surfaces such as plastics, paints, glass and metals. In 1953 Protectapeel developed the first cocooning system which was used to ship aircraft around the world on the decks of aircraft carriers. Once at their destination this could be stripped off and the aircraft immediately put into service.

In 1992 Protectapeel International Limited was formed as an autonomous company and has continued to expand its range of coatings to meet the demands of diverse worldwide industrial requirements with its speciality and high performance coatings. Its customers include The Olympic Games, Formula One, Fairline Boats, Bae Marine Systems, British Nuclear Fuels and signmakers worldwide.

Protectapeel has recently been awarded the accolade of the governement sponsored SMART AWARD for product innovation and development and continues to look beyond the traditional to find unique solutions to its customers coatings requirements.
